PoE acceptance brought by VoIP
Just saw this article over at Slashdot. PoE(Power over Ethernet) has always been a cool concept to me. It will be a major competitor to standard electrical outlets as more and more things become networked. Of course outlets aren’t going to go anywhere(until some kind of crazy wireless power system comes out). But imagine being able to plug in your PS2 to either the wall, or to the LAN. One or the other, not both. Eliminating the need for hundreds upon hundreds of power strips, and then an additional ethernet cables, you can just combine them both.
Of course, nothing is going away anytime soon, but sure as hell much easier to carry those heavy VoIP phones around an office without needing an additional power outlet everywhere you go, or those damned power adapters.
