Here’s our goals for the first iteration.

Task Database Object
Add Task via Xul Client

It’s small, but it gets us started on all the overhead of both rails and xul.

Project Management Tutorial Part 1, Planning and Design

Luckily/Sadly, there is no pressure for me to complete this on any timeframe, and it’s secondary to the rest of my work, which is far more important. However, a nice diversion is always in order, and helps get my mojo back into my regular programming work. Read on for the rest of this…

Quick Update

Not that I post that often, really, but here’s a quick update. I’ve been consumer by work and a recent death in the family.
First of all, for all you locals, there’s a project to create a Haunted House in Deep Ellum. I posted the MySpace bulletin on my Dallas Halloween blog page.
Secondly, Firefox 2 is […]

Finally found the page I was looking for

I must’ve spent a week looking for this simple page on doing Socket connections in XUL. Thank goodness. I want to set up a jabber client in pure JS and XUL(I want to). I also want to set up a chat room for my new dating site, YNKOdate. Slowly but surely it’s all coming together.

Culled from the Web

I saw this, VoiceTronix.
The OpenPCI series is our new entry level CT hardware platform offering four (4) and eight (8) Loop-Start (FXO) or Station (FXS) ports on a PCI 2.2 bus interface running on Linux.
With Asterisk compatability, and coming soon, FreeBSD support. Nice.

IBM’s new Ajax Toolkit for Eclipse requires XulRunner.
Interested in Firefox […]

Exciting Stuff happening

Ok, so I’ve been out of the loop for awhile. Sorry, been very busy, but back for now.
First Off, Firefox RC1 is out and available. Complete with SVG, JS 1.6, CSS 2 and 3 and lots of other cool stuff.
Some other cool stuff, from Devmo: Info on the Canvas Project(Awesome).
There’s great info on […]

So yeah

So yeah, the CRM app that I did for a local company(along with a fellow programmer) does not work at all in Firefox 1.5. Time to convert it to a XulRunner app, or a piece of real chrome. Grr…
Added some JSON to it to speed it up, but found out the basic XML-RPC isn’t working […]

Saturday Update

Over at XUL For Thought he has released an XBL for a very cool datepicker. Big Kudos. Datepickers are very time consuming, yet obvious, to program, and a reusable widget is simply a must.
Looks like there is some info on Ebay’s Plan for Skype.
Scott Berkun made some news by both switching to Firefox and making […]

Thunderbird 1.5 Beta 1 Out

Thunderbird is my all time favorite mail client. Especially because I have 16 email accounts linked to it, each with at least 5 megs of header data(All IMAP), and it doesn’t slow down any. Plus junk mail filtering, etc..
Hat tip to Asa for this.
From their website:
Here’s what’s new in Thunderbird 1.5 Beta 1:

Automated update to […]

Developing Firefox Extensions with GNU/Linux

Check out the article at: ArsTechnica
I prefer cross-platform development, but Firefox could be used to bring added usability and more features to the Unix/Linux platforms.

FF 1.5 Beta 1 is out

Just in time for bed, Firefox 1.5 beta 1 is Out.
Awesome, now I can upgrade from Deer Park Alpha 2. =) Which, by the way, kicks ass already.
Gotta check the new FF version against the CRM as well as a few of the other XUL apps I’ve got in the field. =/ Ah well, fun […]

Zend Toolbar for Firefox

Another great thing for Firefox, the Zend Studio Toolbar. Perhaps once of the most missed things from IE. But, since most of my PHP now is a backend for XUL, IE isn’t really possible. So, hell yeah!
Even better, it’s Official too.
I’ve already installed it, now I can start using all those great features from Zend […]

Asa Predicts FF1.5 Beta Next Week

Asa predicts a Firefox 1.5beta as early as next week.. That’s good. MozillaZine says the same thing as well, saying Sept 8th.
For more up to date info, check out Mozilla Developer News.
Check it out too, Binary Patching is now enabled. Hell yeah. =)
I’ve checked out Deer Park Alpha 2, and it runs very smoothly. And […]

Software Integration and OSS

I’m a big believer in Software Integration, especially in OSS software. I’ve never understood why most OSS programmers haven’t gone to that logical next step to create software integration paths. For example, if I send an email to somebody through Thunderbird, I should be able to see if they are online or not via one […]

AdSense Firefox Extension

Firefox Adsense Extension.
Very Cool, and another reason I love Firefox, it’s incredibly customizable and useful. Plus most of the extensions are cross-platform for Mac, *Bsd, *Nix, and Windows. You can’t beat that!
Unfortunately, I have to watch over 2 adsense accounts, a personal one and then one that one of the businesses I run use. But […]

Firefox hits 80m Downloads

Asa Reports that Firefox has hit 80million downloads. This number is great, but commercial interests need percentages of users.
Well, this article shows about 5.7% on Feb 18th.
Let’s assume 5%. That’s 1 in 20. Store owners do not kick out every 1 in 20 people shopping at their store. 5% means nothing to computer geeks, but […]

Firefox Rules

Well, because there was some trouble today(Friend got into a car accident), as well as my computer glasses being damaged(can work with my regular ones, but not easily). I’ll get to the Xul Basics Toolbar Extension Addon Tutorial Part 2(whew!) tomorrow.

More Mozphone(Now called MozIax)

Mozphone is a pretty popular search term for this site! Wow, who’da thunk it!
But, great news! MozPhone is back, alive, and at mozdev.org now. Looks like they’ve even done some new work on it. I’ve gotta get in there and help them with it when I’ve got some spare time(rarely), but I sure want to. […]

Creating a Firefox Toolbar Tutorial

Ok, I’ve needed to do this for quite some time.
I’m gonna go through the Firefox Toolbar Tutorial and post my results and progress here. I’m telling you now, it won’t be something I release to the public, it will be for demonstration purposes only(well, only to the public, it’ll be of good internal use […]
