Netgear Skype Wifi Phone available for Pre-Order
The NetGear Wifi phone for Skype is now available for preorder with a hefty price tag of $249.99. Ouch.
I’m sure it’s good for a first product, and it looks nifty. Hopefully cheaper ones will be coming out at some point as tech advances.
Culled from the Web
I saw this, VoiceTronix.
The OpenPCI series is our new entry level CT hardware platform offering four (4) and eight (8) Loop-Start (FXO) or Station (FXS) ports on a PCI 2.2 bus interface running on Linux.
With Asterisk compatability, and coming soon, FreeBSD support. Nice.
IBM’s new Ajax Toolkit for Eclipse requires XulRunner.

Mozilla SIP Client
For anyone who hasn’t seen it, check out Zap! the Mozilla SIP Client. Not done, but it looks like it’s come a good ways.
Asterisk to connect to Google Talk
Looks like Asterisk will be able to connect directly to Google Talk in the near future, according to this article I saw at Asterisk VoIP News Blog.
Back, and Updates
I’m back, here’s some quick updates.
Asterisk 1.2.5 is out.
A company I work for has released a xulrunner based app(woo hoo!) using an MSI installer creator that works quite well, although I can’t wait for xulrunner to fully mature and have it’s own installation and updating mechanisms.
I’ve also become a huge fan of Ruby on Rails. […]
Asterisk 1.2
Ok, installing Asterisk 1.2 on my FreeBSD box at home. Let’s see how this goes.
As expected, libpri and zaptel do not compile nor install on FreeBSD. That’s not something I can fix currently. The zaptel dummy drivers are needed for conference calling and some other things. We’ll have to wait for the ports to become […]
Asterisk 1.2 Beta 1 is Out
The long awaited Asterisk 1.2 Beta 1 is now available. Definately worth checking out. I’m gonna upgrade my little server this coming up weekend (or this week, if I get time). The biggest thing is the realtime extension support, so your configuration can be in the database and there is no need to restart the […]
Saturday Update
Over at XUL For Thought he has released an XBL for a very cool datepicker. Big Kudos. Datepickers are very time consuming, yet obvious, to program, and a reusable widget is simply a must.
Looks like there is some info on Ebay’s Plan for Skype.
Scott Berkun made some news by both switching to Firefox and making […]
eBay to Purchase Skype?
Looks like eBay is interested in Skype now.
The Wall Street Journal reported today that EBay is in talks to buy the Luxembourg-based Skype, whose software allows Internet users to speak to each other for free. The acquisition would cost $2 billion to $3 billion, the paper said, citing people familiar […]
Skype API
Skype’s API has gone open. Not enough to communicate with Asterisk, or at least I don’t think so, and it’s the windows version, but hey, very cool nonetheless. That link has all the info you need to start hacking away.
Software Integration and OSS
I’m a big believer in Software Integration, especially in OSS software. I’ve never understood why most OSS programmers haven’t gone to that logical next step to create software integration paths. For example, if I send an email to somebody through Thunderbird, I should be able to see if they are online or not via one […]
VoIP Could Provide Better E911
Something I’ve always thought and agreed with, VoIP could provide better E911 and should. Address and name is simply not enough. When I was younger a neighbor’s house caught on fire. You could hear the firetrucks and ambulances on the OTHER block.
We were on a type of U street that connected to only one street(two […]
FCC Wants to Tap Your VoIP and other VoIP News Today
The FCC Wants to Tap Your VoIP. Well, that doesn’t make a lot of sense. When Phones originally came out, did anyone want to tap phones then? Nope! It wasn’t until later.
This and other news…
P2P SIP / Peer-to-Peer VoIP
Looks like there is some development on peer-to-peer SIP going on.
After some quick searching, I was able to find this page with more information. Also I found more informative links than anything I could post here:

Vonage and WiMax
Just saw this over at Slashdot about Vonage using WiMax for a pseudo wireless network. I wonder how they’re going to cope with the delay caused by regular WiFi, let alone WiMax.
My VoIP Plan
My VoIP Plan is still with VoicePulse Connect with 1 incoming for $11/mo(unlimited minutes), and outgoing is with VoIPJet with 1.3c/min outgoing. Both are hooked up through Asterisk, there is fallback to VoicePulse for outgoing in case VoIPJet is down(hasn’t happened yet). And I’m hooked up to my asterisk with my DVG-1402S (Setup Help Here).
Monday Morning VoIP
Voip-Solution a canadian company has gone live. Only $16.67/mo, plus $25 first time fee for a USB to std telephone bridge. Very cool, but I’ll stick with my D-Link. Looks like they aren’t doing 911 either. I wonder if it is because they are in Canada they don’t have to worry about providing it, even […]
More Mozphone(Now called MozIax)
Mozphone is a pretty popular search term for this site! Wow, who’da thunk it!
But, great news! MozPhone is back, alive, and at mozdev.org now. Looks like they’ve even done some new work on it. I’ve gotta get in there and help them with it when I’ve got some spare time(rarely), but I sure want to. […]

VoIP Encryption Software/Security
Phil Zimmermann, the celebrated cryptographer who created PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) for e-mail encryption, is taking a shot at securing VOIP communications.
Sorry for the lack of posts, I’ve been pretty busy. Will get to a real post later today or on Sunday/Monday. Will continue the Toolbar Tutorial next week.
